In addition to protecting the native wildlife and habitat of its 45,000 acres, the Conservancy
is known for its outstanding success in fostering the recovery of the nearly extinct Black Rhino
as well as the endangered Grevy's Zebra and reticulated Giraffe. Lewa's enlightened approach to
conservation includes supporting and involving the local community through employment, education as
well as other beneficial programs. For more information and an overview of Lewa's many projects please visit:
In January 2004, we stayed at Lewa's Wilderness Trails
and enjoyed our visit immensely. In addition to the
Craig family's hospitality, we were most impressed
with the extraordinary wildlife we encountered, particularly
the Bull Elephant that apparently felt our Land Rover should have kept a more respectful distance.
In any case we highly recommend a stay at Lewa to anyone who plans to visit Kenya for a photo safari etc.
